John Franklin Sutherland Iii

Mr. John Franklin Sutherland III, 84, of Lundburg Rd. in Washington, entered into rest on Wednesday, August 24, 2022, at Doctors Hospital in Augusta.  Mr. Sutherland was born in Abbeville, S.C., and had lived in Wilkes County for about 40 years.  He was the son of the late John Franklin Sutherland, Jr., and Elise Dornberg Sutherland.  John had worked as a first responder for a number of years, having been a firefighter and an EMT with the Wilkes County EMS.  John was a Clemson University graduate, and as you would expect, was a huge Clemson fan and supporter.  He was a member of Clifford’s Grove Baptist Church.

He is survived by one son, John Bradford Sutherland, of Washington; and one sister, Beverley Sutherland Scroggs (Harold), of Durham, N.C.

Memorial services will be held at 3:00pm Saturday, August 27, 2022, at  Hopkins Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Donnie Walton officiating.  The family will receive friends Saturday at Hopkins Funeral Home for one hour prior to the service (from 2:00-3:00pm).
