John Harris Lance

Rev. John Harris Lance, age 71, of N. Pecan Street, Washington, was born on April 23rd, 1952 in Washington, Georgia, to the late Boyce P. and Sara Bell Lance.  He passed away on June 17, 2023 at University Piedmont Hospital, Augusta, Georgia.

After graduating high school, John attended trade school in Cartersville, Georgia, then pursued a career in Route Sales, a career that took him all over the surrounding counties.

John was a minister and pastored several churches in the Wilkes and Taliaferro County area; including Cliffords Grove Baptist Church, Jennings Baptist Church and Newtown Baptist Church.  After retiring from the pulpit, John became a member of the First Baptist Church of Washington.

In his free time, John enjoyed walking his dog, Maggie who was a constant companion.

John is survived by two brothers, Clarence Lance (Lynn) of Chattanooga, TN, and Willard Lance (Sue) of Washington as well as a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, John was preceded in death by three brothers, Boyce Lance, Jr., Chris Lance, Guy Lance and a sister, Sara Lance Dees.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 22, 2023, at Cliffords Grove Baptist Church, Lundburg Road, Washington, Georgia, with Rev. James Bell and Dr. Phil Pilgrim officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be held at the church from 10:00-11:00.
