Joel Leslie Saggus

Mr. Joel “Joey” Leslie Saggus, 64, of Washington, entered into rest on Friday, November 10, 2023, at his home after a brief illness.

Mr. Saggus was born in McDuffie County, but had lived in Wilkes County all of his life. He was the son of Frances Saggus Hensley and of the late Donald Richard Saggus, Sr. Joey had worked at Wilkes Telephone/Relyant Communications for a number of years in a number of different capacities. To know Joey was to love him. He loved everyone-never met a stranger. He loved his Washington Total Fitness family, as it was his passion. He loved working out and helping others that may have been new members or even beginners. Joey also loved his family, grandchildren, and his nieces and nephews.  He was a member of the Washington First United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his two daughters, Leslee S. Vincent (Jason), of Iva, S.C., and Candice S. Holmes (Jay), also of Iva, S.C.; his parents, Frances S. Hensley (Harold), of Chatsworth; one brother, Tommy Saggus (Karen), of Washington; one sister, Phyllis S. Dawson (Keith), of Washington; six grandchildren, Jayden Vincent, Mackenzie Vincent, Camryn Vincent. Morgen Holmes, Laila Holmes, and Wyatt Holmes; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Donald Richard Saggus, Jr.

Funeral services will be 2:00 Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at Hopkins Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Manuel Bailey officiating. There will be no committal service or interment after the service.

The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 at Hopkins Funeral Home.
