Jerry Douglas (Doug) Stevens, 72, of Fortson St. in Tignall, died Friday evening, May 6, 2016, at his home. Mr. Stevens was born in Wilkes County and had lived here most of his life.He was the son of the late Brantley O. Stevens and Lucy Echols Stevens.He was a graduate of Washington-Wilkes High School,had been a cattle farmer for a number of years, and served in the U. S. Air Force in Vietnam, where he received an Air Force Commendation Medal for outstanding and exemplary service.He was member of the Hiram Masonic Lodge #51, and was a member of the Ficklen Presbyterian Church. A graveside memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 12, at 11:00am in Resthaven Cemetery with Rev. Mark Epperson officiating, after which aU. S. Air Force Honor Guard will present Funeral Honors. He is survived by one son, Raymond Stevens (Alison), Barnwell, SC; two daughters, Brenda S. Fanning, Jefferson, and Karen S. Scruggs (Greg), of Covington; one sister, Dot Branham, of Washington; two brothers, GeneStevens (Betty), of Lincolnton, and Bobby Stevens, of Washington; seven grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren.Memorial contributions may be made to the TJ.& Friends Foundation P.O.
