Jerry Marshall Hackney

Mr. Jerry Marshall Hackney, Sr., 79, died Sunday morning, January 29, 2017, at the Georgia War Veteran’s Home in Milledgeville. Mr. Hackney was born in Wilkes County and lived there most of his life. He was the son of the late William Aubrey Hackney and Carrie Lunsford Hackney, and was the husband of Mildred Lucas Hackney.They had been married since June 24, 1962. He retired from AT&T after 35 years of service.He served four years in the U. S. Air Force, and was a member of Phillips Mill Baptist Church.He was a member of the Wilkes County Young Farmers, the Wilkes County Cattlemen Association, and of the Retired Telephone Pioneers.He also served as Scout Master of Troop #34 in Washington. Mr. Hackney is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mildred Lucas Hackney, of Washington; three sons, Jerry Hackney (Helen), of Washington, Jeff Hackney (Shawn), of Washington, and Jim Hackney (Christy), of Marietta; seven grandchildren, Matthew Hackney (Alissa), Adam Hackney, Daniel Hackney, Alex Hackney, Austin Hackney, Lauren Hackney, and Ashley Kate Hackney; and two great grandchildren, Hannah Hackney and Andrew Hackney. Funeral services will be 11:00am Tuesday, January 31, 2017, at the Phillips Mill Baptist Church with Rev. Kevin Madden and Rev. Mark Woods officiating.Visitation will be Tuesday morning from 10:00am until 10:50 at Phillips Mill Baptist Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Augusta Chapter of the Alzheimer Association, 1899 Central Ave., Augusta, GA30904.
