Mr. Jefferson Randolph Lawrence, 97, formerly of Washington, passed away Wednesday morning, May 6, 2020, at the Mt. Pleasant Personal Care Home in Thomson. Mr. Lawrence was born in Tignall, and had lived all of his life in Wilkes County.He was the son of the late Jefferson Randolph Lawrence and Sara Anna Talkington Lawrence.He was the husband of the late love of his life, Mary Graves Lawrence. He was a retired mail carrier for the United States Post Office, and was the owner and manager of his own fencing company for a number of years.Everyone that knew Randolph respected his hard work ethic.He believed in it, and lived it.He was an Army Airborne veteran of WW II, a Mason, and Rotarian.He was also a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Washington. Graveside services will be private due to the ongoing pandemic restrictions. Mr. Lawrence is survived by four nieces; Jeffrey Anna Butler (Marion), of Evans, Sarah Braswell, Martinez, Wanda Britt (James), of Augusta, and Melissa Matthews, Beech Island, SC and a first cousin, James Talkington (Dean), of Thomson.He was preceded in death by his son, Larry Lawrence, and by his sister, Sara Anna Lawrence Carroll. Memorial contributions may be made to the Washington First United Methodist Church.
