Mrs. Jean Bacon Connelly Stokes, 84, of Aiken, S.C. passed away January 10, 2015 in Aiken Regional Medical Center with family by her side.A native of Savannah, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Rufus L. and Jeanette Roach Bacon.Mrs. Stokes was Director of Nursing at Wills Memorial Hospital from 1967 – 1974, and continued her work in Texas, Alabama, Saudi Arabia and Swainsboro, Georgia.She did volunteer work in the hospital in Waynesville, N.C.She was an avid reader, loved music, was an accomplished pianist and sang in the choir at Hazelwood Baptist Church in Waynesville. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, January 17th at 10:00am in Cornerstone Baptist Church, Aiken, S.C. with Dr. Darrell Engle officiating.Interment of cremains will follow in Hillcrest Abbey East, Savannah, Georgia at 4:00pm. Survivors include her loving husband of eighteen years, Grady Stokes, sons, Brant Long (Linda), of Evans, Georgia, Patrick Connelly (Jennifer), of Erlanger, Kentucky, and David Stokes (Kim), of Resaca, Georgia; seven grandchildren, Matthew Long, Zachary Long, Jonathan Long, Hunter Long, Hillary Connelly, Alex Connelly and Isaac Stokes. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Music Ministry of Cornerstone Baptist Church, 100 Cornerstone Drive, Aiken, S.C. 29801.
