Jacqueline Al-Azawi, a beloved educator and cherished member of the Washington, Georgia community, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, January 13, 2025, at the age of 90. Born on Friday, January 4, 1935, in Rayle, Georgia, Jacqueline lived a life rich with purpose, love, and commitment to nurturing the talents of others.
Beyond her professional pursuits, Jacqueline was a devoted wife to the late Abdulla Al-Azawi and a loving daughter to the late David Nash and Janie Belle McAvoy Nash. Her deep dedication to her family lives on through her legacy.
Jacqueline is survived by her cherished daughter, Nadia Al-Azawi, and her husband, William Kelman, of St. Augustine, Florida, who will continue to honor her memory with love and gratitude.
An accomplished educator, Jacqueline shared her passion for music with countless students during her career. She spent time teaching music to college students in the Philippines, inspiring future generations with her wisdom and musical talent. Jacqueline later dedicated many years to Dekalb Technology College, where she worked as a teacher, leaving an indelible mark on both colleagues and students. When she was younger, she was a trained opera singer.
Visitation will be Saturday, January 18, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Hopkins Funeral Home. A funeral service for Jacqueline will follow at 2:00 PM. She will be buried at Resthaven Cemetery in Washington, Georgia with her loving husband, Abdula Al-Azawi.
