Mrs. Jane Rider Newsome, 85, of 109 Court St., passed away Saturday evening, September 9, 2017, at Pruitt Health Care in Washington. Mrs. Newsome was a native of Washington and lived here most of her life.She was the daughter of the late J. R. Rider and Lola Mae Taylor Rider, and was the widow of Mr. Parks Smythe Newsome.She was a columnist/typesetter at the family owned and operated News-Reporter, and was a member and the organist at Washington First Baptist Church for many years. Mrs. Newsome is survived by her son, Sparky Newsome, and wife Mary, of Washington; one sister, Jo Rider Randall (Buzzy), of Clinton, SC; three grandchildren, Elizabeth (Lizzie) Newsome Holmes (Justin), of Cookeville, TN, Daniel Newsome (Alexa), of Decatur, and Molly Newsome Esswein (Mitchell), of Cumming, GA; one niece, Lyn Randall (Bill Cannon);3 nephews, Randy Randall (Kim), Joe Randall, and Mike Sherrer (Debra); and by her double first cousin, Don Taylor (Miriam), of Birmingham, AL. Graveside services will be 4:00pm Thursday afternoon, September 14, 2017, at Resthaven Cemetery with Rev. Jim Newsome and Rev. Chris Townsend officiating.The family will receive friends Thursdayafternoon from 2:00-3:30pm at Hopkins Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Troupe M. Harris Scholarship Fund @ Washington First Baptist Church, P. O. Box 603, Washington, GA30673.
