Mr. James C. “Buddy” Thornton, 94, of Wrightsboro Rd. in Washington, died Thursday evening, November 19, 2015, at Southern Manor. Mr. Thornton was born in Washington, GA, and was a life-long resident of Wilkes County.He was the son of the late Thomas C. Thornton and Nellie Ruth Gresham Thornton.He worked with and retired from the Georgia Department of Transportation, and was a member of the Washington First Baptist Church.Mr. Thornton was preceded in death by his son, John Thornton. Graveside services will be 4:00 Sunday, November 22, 2015 at Resthaven Cemetery with Rev. Kevin Madden and Rev. Albert Huyck officiating. He is survived by his wife, Emily Baston Thornton, of Washington; one daughter, Mary Donna Lunceford, of Washington; one brother, Jasper Thornton, of Washington; five grandchildren, Holly Lunceford, Bob Lunceford (Elizabeth), Brooke Sanders (Mike), Nick Thornton (Mary Stacey), and T. J. Thornton; and two great grandchildren, Brett Lunceford, and Ella Thornton; and by a number of nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 603, Washington, GA, or to the Washington-Wilkes Animal Shelter, 358 Brown Rd., Washington, GA30673. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon at Hopkins Funeral Home from 2:30-3:30pm.
