Mr. James Marshall Sherrer, 84, of Rayle, passed away Sunday evening, November 17, 2019, at his home. Mr. Sherrer was born in Rayle and had lived there all of his life.He was the son of the late James Glover Sherrer and Annie Sue Bridges Sherrer, and was the husband of the late Mablean Smith Sherrer.He was the owner/operator of Sherrer’s Store in Rayle from 1962-2012. Before he bought the store, he worked there (1956-1960) when it was owned by E. W. Armour.Mr. Sherrer also served in the Army National Guard for a number of years, and was called up on Active Duty (1960-1961) during the Berlin Crisis.He and Mr. Robert Wright were instrumental in starting our county fire departments.He had been a member of Phillips Mill Baptist Church most of his life, and was baptized there. He is survived by his son, Brent Sherrer, and wife Deana, of Rayle; and by his granddaughter, Jennifer S. Shelton,and by his great grandson, J.T. Phillips, both of Rayle. Funeral services will be 11:00am Wednesday morning, November 20, 2019, at the Phillips Mill Baptist Church with Rev. Mark Woods offiociating.Interment will follow at the Carters Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.Visitation will be Wednesday morning at Phillips Mill for one hour prior to the service (10-11am). Pallbearers will be Ed Pope III, Dan Coxwell, Tony Griffin, Tracy Armour, Justin Armour, and Brant (Bubba) Rogers.
