Mr. James Robert “Bobby” Ray, Sr., 79, of Sandy Cross Rd. In Washington, passed away Monday, December 30, 2019, at his residence. Mr. Ray was born in Barnett, Ga., and was the son of the late Otis Ray and Anna Roth Ray Yearwood.He was an auto mechanic, having worked at the Wills Chrysler-Plymouth dealership in Washington for a number of years.He enjoyed a quiet life-living in the country and tinkering with his tractors.He also loved to deer hunt and was a NASCAR enthusiast to say the least.He served for a number of years in the Army National Guard. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Susan Marie Ray. Mr. Ray is survived by one son, Robert Ray, Jr. and wife Laura, of Greensboro; two brothers, Alton Ray (Karen), of Washington, and Tim Ray, of Greensboro; one sister, Linda R. Davis, of Dearing; two grandchildren, Dillion Ray (Ashley), and Brittany R. Underwood (Trey), both of Greensboro; and four great grandchildren, Lane Underwood, Elana Underwood, Laila Ray, and Trey Thurmond. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Friday, January 3, 2020, at the Hopkins Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. W. C. Bentley officiating.Interment will follow at Washington-Wilkes Memorial Garden. The family will receive friends Friday morning for one hour prior to the service (10:00-10:55) at Hopkins Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Alton Ray, Tim Ray, Dillion Ray, Trey Underwood, Cliff Stitcher, and Roy Stitcher. Memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled Veterans Fund, c/o VFW Local Post # 5899, 240 Andrew Dr., Washington, GA30673. Hopkins Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of James Robert Ray.
