Mr. James Linville “Pop” Poplin, 73, of Washington, entered into rest Thursday morning, August 25, 2022, at Wills Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Poplin was born in Elkin, N.C., and had lived in Wilkes County for the last 45 years. He was the son of the late Robert O. Poplin, Jr. and Lillian Tucker Poplin, and was the husband of Kay Hardy Poplin. He was a 1971 University of Georgia graduate of the School of Forestry, excelling in the top 10% of his class. He was the original owner/operator of Pop’s Knife Supply, and was a past member of the Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina National Knifemaker Guilds. He was a member of the Sardis Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and was facilitator of the Men’s Mission Organization. He also taught Sunday School at the Wilkes County Jail for 23 years.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Kay Hardy Poplin, of Washington; one brother, Robert O. Poplin III (Randi), of Post Falls, Idaho; one niece, Beth Poplin (Tim Higgins), of Mt. Airy, N.C., and one nephew, Bert Poplin, (Dena Reynolds), of Richmond, Va.
Funeral services will be at 3:00pm on Sunday, August 28, 2022, at the Sardis Baptist Church with Rev. Jim Newsome officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will be receiving friends on Sunday at Sardis Baptist Church from 1:30pm until the time of the service at 3:00pm. SUITS AND TIES ARE NOT REQUIRED. Casual attire is welcomed.
Pallbearers will be Joey Berry, Andy Roy, Dirk Loots, Allen Surls, Jarrett Fleming, and Brantley Walker.
