Mr. James Clarence “Butch” Pierce, born in Lakeland, Georgia on December 6, 1915 died at University Hospital, Augusta, Ga. on September 30, 2011.He was a 1939 University of Georgia Graduate with a degree in Agriculture, worked as County Agent in Camilla and retired ASCS Office Manager, Taliaferro County in 1968.He owned and operated a dairy and raised beef cattleand was a tree farmer.Mr. Pierce loved to fish and watch Georgia Football games.He was past president of Crawfordville Kiwanis Club and American Legion. Mr. Pierce was a member of Sandy Cross Baptist Church serving as song leader for 54 years, he was alsoSunday School Teacher, Director and Clerk andwas Deacon Emeritus.He served his Country in WWII serving in New Guinea, Philippines, Japan and called back into active duty for the Korean Conflict. Mr. Pierce was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph C. and Nancy Richardson Pierce, Sister Beatrice Pierce Everett, brothers, Billy Pierce, Dilmus Pierce and Wilmont Pierce, Daughter Bunny Pierce Stevens Wellmaker and a great great granddaughter Abigail Booker. Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Evelyn Moore Pierce, Crawfordville, a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy & Randy Young, Washington, GA; 6 Grandchildren, Sandy (Tim) Beasley, Stephens, Ga, Ellen (Paul)Booker, Anderson, SC, Chuck (Rachel) Stevens, Louisville, Ga., Jeff (Genie) Stevens, Columbia, SC, Lucy (Bennie) Mullet, Winterville, GA, Florence (Dennis) Chafin, Rayle, Ga; 12 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren; Sisters, Dot (Howard) Ray, Nashville, GA,Jessie Hudson, Valdosta; Brother, McDonald (Betty) Pierce. Serving as pallbearers will be Great-Grandsons, Shawn O’Kelley, James Booker, Brandon Josey, David Stevens, Michael Stevens and Matthew Mullet;Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be deacons of Sandy Cross Baptist Church, Sam Nunn, Willie Nunn, and Jim Roper.
