Mr. James Fulmer Lance, 72, of 4047 Lexington Rd., in Washington, died Monday evening, February 27, 2017, at Athens Regional Hospital in Athens. Mr. Lance was born in Blairsville, and had lived in Washington for 45 years.He was the son of the late Champ and Edna Everett Lance, and was the husband of Jeanie Nicholson Lance. He was an engineer at Wilkes Telephone and Electric Company and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.Fulmer was not only an accomplished dirt track racer, but was inducted into the National Dirt Racing Association (NDRA) Hall of Fame. Mr. Lance was survived by his wife, Jeanie N. Lance, of Washington; two daughters, Renea L. Smith (Anthony), of Athens, and Sasha L. Quarles(T.J.), of Glennville; four brothers, Champ Lance, Jr., of Blairsville, Marshall Lance (Rachel), of Cumming, Bobby Lance (Janice), of Blairsville, and Larry Lance (Jo), of Sylvania; one sister, Shirley L. Shook (Darrell), of Young Harris; and three grandchildren, Alicia Quarles, Della Quarles, and Camden Quarles. Graveside services will be 3:00pm Thursday, March 2, 2017, at the Washington-Wilkes Memorial Garden with Darrell Shook officiating. Active pallbearers will be Ronnie Futch, Lee Howard, Greg Rogers, Jeff Mann, Jerry Compton, Ronnie Smith, Lloyd McCants, and Tim Hardin.Honorary pallbearers will be Jasper Davis, Clyde Whittington, Harold Mays, and Hal Howard. The family will receive friends Thursday, March 2, 2017, from 1;30 until 2:30pm at Hopkins Funeral Home.
