Mr. James (Jimmy) Vernon Bowman, 72, of E. Robert Toombs Ave. in Washington, passed away Friday morning, September 11, 2020, at the St. Mary’s Hospice House in Watkinsville. Mr. Bowman was born January 10, 1948, in Washington, Ga., and had lived here for the better part of his life.He was the son of the late Richard Bowman and Frances Dent Bowman, and was the husband of Elizabeth (Libbie) Lannae Bowman.Jimmy and Libbie owned and worked at their own painting/home remodeling business for a number of years.He was a graduate of Washington-Wilkes High School, where he was a standout running back for the Tigers.Jimmy was a member of the Washington First United Methodist Church, and was preceded in death by his brother, Richard (Ricky) Bowman.Jimmy was the patriarch of his family and a faithful friend to all who knew him. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Elizabeth L. (Libbie) Bowman, of Washington; one son, James (Jim) V. Bowman, Jr., of Martinsburg, W.V.; two daughters, Lannae B. Johnson, and husband Burke, of Danielsville, Ga., and Betsy Bowman, of Greeneville, S.C.; Jimmy was the beloved “Poppy” of his four grandchildren, Walker and William Johnson and Elias and Elizabeth Gold; and one sister, Becky Decker, and husband Gary, of Westminister, Md. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00pm Saturday, September 19, 2020, at the Hopkins Funeral Home Chapel.The family would welcome all friends to remain after the service in order to thank them for their love and support.Masks will be required.Thank you for your compliance and understanding.
