Mr. Jack A. Leard, Jr. passed away Sunday afternoon, March 17, 2019, at University Hospital in Augusta. Mr. Leard was born September 9, 1950 and was a native of Washington. He married his wife Patricia Singleton Leard July 23, 1972 and spent most of his life as a resident of Washington. He was a lifelong horticulturist and spent most of his career installing and maintaining landscapes. Mr. Leard also owned and operated Leard’s Nursery and Garden Center throughout the ‘70’s and ‘80’s.He also spent 11 years with the Georgia Department of Agriculture as a nursery inspector in North Georgia. He was a former Washington City Council member, Lions Club member, and member of First Baptist Church Washington. Survivors include wife, Patty Leard; one daughter Amy Echols, and husband Chris; one son Jack A. Leard, III, and wife Laura; five grandchildren, Bailey Echols Sawyer, and husband Josh; Caitlin Leard, Jake Echols, Kelsey Leard, and Kinsley Leard.Mr. Leard was also awaiting the arrival of his first great-grandchild Lillian Blaire Sawyer in June. Graveside services will be 4:00pm Tuesday, March 19, 2019 at Resthaven Cemetery with Rev. Kevin Madden officiating.The family will receive friendsTuesday afternoon from 1:00-3:00pm at Hopkins Funeral Home. Serving as pallbearers will be Jack Leard, III, Chris Echols, Blake Thompson, Charlie Burgess, Kenneth Callaway, David Callaway, Mac Winfrey, and L. Dan Coxwell. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be W-W Football State Champions of ’66 and ’67 and members of the W-W Class of 1968. Memorial contributions may be made to Youth Ministries of First Baptist Church of Washington, P.O. Box 603, Washington, GA 30673. Hopkins Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Mr. Jack A. Leard, Jr.
