Mr. Herbert Wood Hopkins, 92, of Tignall, entered into rest Tuesday morning, January 18, 2022, at Wills Memorial Hospital. Mr. Hopkins was born in the Lundburg Community, and had lived in Wilkes County most of his life.He was the son of the late Lewis and Mabel Moore Hopkins.He was the widower of Selina Bungard Hopkins, and was retired from the U.S. Air Force.He was a member of VFW Post #5899 in Washington, and was a past Quarter Master at that post.He was a member of the First Baptist Church, a member of the Jesse Mercer Sunday School Class, and served as treasurer of that class. Mr. Hopkins is survived by three daughters, Selina E. Hopkins, of Savannah, Carollen R. Pogue (Butch), of Perry, and Ann M. Harrison (Bud), of Tignall; one sister, Virginia Hobbs; six grandchildren, Franklin W. Woodall III, Chelsea Mitchell, Tabytha Molloy, Stephen McCoy, Evan Harrison, and Lauren Harrison; and four great grandchildren. Graveside services will be 2:00pm Sunday at Resthaven Cemetery with Dr. Phil Pilgrim and Bob Simmons officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the U.S. Air Force Honor Guard at the end of the graveside service.The family will receive friends after the graveside service at the cemetery on Sunday. Pallbearers will be Stephen McCoy, Evan Harrison, Gene Mallory, Bill Burdette, Ed Burdette III, Scot Molloy, and Ronnie Smith. Memorial contributions may be made to VFW Post 5899.
