Henry Pope Mcavoy, Jr.

Mr. Henry Pope McAvoy, Jr., 89, of Rayle, entered into rest on Monday morning, April 24, 2023, at his home.

Mr. McAvoy was born in the Courtground Community and was the son of the late Henry Pope McAvoy, Sr. and Susie Sherrer McAvoy. He had been married to Faye Sisson McAvoy for 61 years before she went to be with the Lord in 2017. Henry ran a small dairy with his father prior to working for Dairymen Incorporated. He retired after 34 years with the Georgia Department of Agriculture. He enjoyed meeting people in the 13 counties where he worked over the years. The many friends he made were subjected to his humor via kidding, joking and stories he would tell.  A member and Deacon Emeritus of Phillips Mill Baptist Church, Henry loved and appreciated his church family.

Mr. McAvoy is survived by a daughter, Mary Ruth McAvoy Pollock (Larry), of Cottonwood Heights, Utah; one brother-in-law, Mickey Sisson (Nancy), of Washington; and a number of nieces and nephews. Henry was preceded in death by a daughter, Julie Cara McAvoy, and by a sister, Mary Howard Hawes.

Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Sunday, April 30, 2023, at the Phillips Mill Baptist Church with Rev. Mark Woods officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be Sunday at the church from 2:00 until the time of the service.

Pallbearers will be Larry Pollock, John Sisson, Adam Howard, Mike Sherrer, Mike Butts, and Mark Fields.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Phillips Mill Baptist Church, or to the Church of your choice.
