Harold Raymond Barker, a beloved resident of Tignall, GA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at the age of 81 at Wills Memorial Hospital. Born on Saturday, January 1, 1944, in Bryson City, North Carolina.
A skilled carpenter, Harold was self-employed throughout his career. His craftsmanship and commitment to his trade were admired by many. Outside of his work, Harold cherished the great outdoors, spending much of his time camping, fishing, gardening, and canning—activities that brought him joy and serenity.
Harold is survived by his adoring children: Gayle Barker and Crystal Cox of Tignall, GA, Angie Chambers (Tim), Lynn Dills (Mike), Harold Barker, Jr. (Lynn) of Waynesville, NC, Leslie Dills (John Mathis) of Washington, GA, Billy Barker (Diann) of Sylva, NC, Ben Barker of Candler, NC, and Bryan Rogers (Crystal) of Crawfordville, GA. He also leaves behind his beloved sister, Dearlean Rogers (Kenny) of Tignall, GA, as well as 27 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Elijah Ray Barker and Maggie Lein Barker, his brothers Eddie Barker and Wilburn Barker, and his sister Betty Moses.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2025, from 1-2 PM at New Life Ministries, followed by the funeral service at 2 PM, officiated by Rev. Arthur Key and Rev. Terry Casper. Interment will take place at Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery in Tignall, GA.
Pallbearers honoring Harold's legacy will include Heath Barker, Breyden Cox, Blake Dills, Bryan Rogers Jr., Billy Green, Aaron Dills, Colten Chambers, and Josh Wood. Honorary pallbearers include Colt Nunn, Quentin Cox, T.J. Dills, Sawyer Nunn, James Graves Jr., and a host of great-grandsons.
Arrangements are being handled by Hopkins Funeral Home, ensuring Harold's remarkable life is celebrated with the love and respect he so dearly deserves. Harold will be remembered fondly by his numerous friends, family, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
