Washington:Mrs. Gussie Blondine Hardy McAvoy, 95, of Quaker Springs Rd., died Friday, January 22, 2010, at Wills Memorial Hospital. Mrs. McAvoy was a native of Wilkes County and had lived here all of her life.She was the widow of Thomas McAvoy, Sr., and the daughter of Lester H. Hardy and Sarah Norman Hardy.She worked at ALMAR for a number of years and was a homemaker.She was a member of the Phillips Mill Baptist Church. Funeral services will be Sunday, January 24, 2010, at 3:00 at Phillips Mill Baptist Church with Rev. Stan Sullivan and Rev. Robert Rayner officiating.Interment will follow at Resthaven Cemetery.The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the church on Sunday. Active pallbearers will be grandsons: Benji McAvoy, Brett McAvoy, Rodney Roberson, Tommy Roberson, Kevin Roberson, and Barry Baynham.Honorary pallbearers will be great grandsons:Joshua Saggus, Caleb Saggus, Emory McAvoy, Scotty Roberson, Latham Roberson, Jason McAvoy, Austin Hall, Alex Hall, Anthony Hall, and Aykin Hall. Mrs. McAvoy is survived by one son, Thomas McAvoy, Jr., and wife Mary Jane, of Washington; two daughters, Willie M. Roberson, and husband Gayle, of Washington, and Sarah Nell Baynham, and husband Robert, of Clarks Hill, SC; twelve grandchildren, Benji McAvoy, Brett McAvoy, Dawn Moore, Mary Donna Hall, Rodney Roberson, Tommy Roberson, Kevin Roberson, Julie Lee, Bert Baynham, Barry Baynham, Ashley Phail, and Alison Baynham; 22 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Phillips Mill Baptist Church, or to Gideons International.
