Mr. Gregory Mark Rogers, affectionately known as “Baby Greg”, entered into rest on Tuesday morning, January 11, 2022. Greg was born in Washington, Ga., to Marjorie Whittington Rogers and to the late Allen Rogers.He had lived in this community for all of his life.He was employed most recently by Fern Acres Farms/ Mike Thornton Trucking, had driven for them for over a year, and had driven a truck for Barnett Southern for over 20 years.He was a retired firefighter (24 years), and had been a deputy for the Wilkes County Sheriff Department for 34 years.Baby Greg loved to cook and would invite family and friends most every weekend for a feast.He loved to fish, enjoyed discussing glory days in Little League, and loved coaching Little League.He also had a love for old school soul music.He enjoyed serving his community in every way, and was known and loved by many.He was preceded in death by his brother, Gary Rogers and father in law, Ben Long. Greg is survived by his wife, Allison L. Rogers, of Tignall; by one daughter, Jennifer Rogers (James), of Washington; sons, Joe Rogers, and Jack Rogers, both of Tignall; one grandson, Gil Davis, of Washington and by his “bonus son”, Tyrone Maddox, of Washington; his mother, Marjorie W. Rogers, of Washington; two brothers, Clyde Rogers (Cissy), and Darrell Rogers (Gay), both of Tignall; sister-in-law, Kim Wynne (Mike); beloved mother-in-law, Jackie Long, of Tignall; by a number of nieces and nephews, and great nieces and great nephews. Graveside services will be Friday, January 14, 2022, at Resthaven Cemetery with Rev. Chris Townsend officiating. Active pallbearers will be Scott Smith, Chris Echols, Chris Guin, Brett Thornton, Gaynor Hardy, Efrem Gunter, Brian Tench, and Jackie Graves. Honorary pallbearers will be the Washington Fire Department. The family has asked that memorial contributions be made to the Washington Fire Department.
