Grady Rogers Mr. Grady Edward Rogers of Washington, Georgia died on Thursday, October 14, 2010 at Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home in Augusta.Mr. Rogers was a lifelong resident of Wilkes County.He was manager of the Hardware and Furniture Department of W.T. Johnson Company for 25 years and served as Wilkes County Tax Commissioner for 20 years. Mr. Rogers served in the Georgia National Guard for 17 years, on the Washington Fire Department for 31 years and retired as a Captain.He was a lifetime member of the Washington Lions Club where he was a Melvin Jones Fellow. Mr. Rogers was a lifetime member of the First Baptist of Washington where he served as a deacon, Sunday School Director, Chairman of Youth Committee.He had attended Sardis Baptist Church for the past three years. Survivors in addition to his wife of 18 years, Ruth H. Rogers; sons Eddie and wife Elizabeth, Bruce and wife Valerie; daughter Angela Danner Cooper and husband Wayne Cooper; five grandchildren Heath and Alison Rogers, Meg, Olivia and Blake Rogers, and Alex Cooper, three brothers, Jack Rogers, Aiken, S. C., Wendell Rogers, Athens, and Ernie Rogers, Washington. He was predeceased in death by his first wife Dorothy Ann West Rogers.They had been married for 22 years. Graveside serves will be Saturday at 2:00pm in Resthaven Cemetery with Rev. Jim Newsome officiating.Danny Hubbard, Darrell Rogers, Jimmy Rogers, Robbie West, Shelton West and Wendy Rogers will serve as pallbearers.Serving as honorary pallbearers will be members of the Jesse Mercer Sunday School Class, the Lions Club and the Washington Fire Department active and retired. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 6-8pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lions Lighthouse for the Blind, 1775 Clairmont Rd., Decatur, GA 30033 or Sardis Baptist Church
