Grace Mathis Beazley

Mrs. Grace Allen Mathis Beazley’s earthly life ended on March 29, 2013.She was born on January 12, 1916 and lived most of her life in the Carters Grove community of Taliaferro County.Her parents were the late Walter Albion Mathis and Sallie Winnie Edwards Mathis.Mrs. Beazley was one of seven children. She attended grammar school at Lineville, Tyrone and Carters Grove schools.For her last year of high school she boarded with Professor J.D. Nash and his family in Crawfordville and had a room in the Alexander Stephen home.She was an honor graduate from ASI and received a scholarship to Bessie Tift College. She lived a very active adult life as wife, mother, secretary, Sunday school teacher, grandmother and great grandmother.She married Guy Fluker Beazley on March 25th, 1934 and they had one daughter, Grace Virginia (Ginny) Beazley Broome.She retired from the Taliaferro County Health Department where she served for 25 years as secretary. She was active in Baptist Church life and had served as Associational Training Union Superintendent, Vacation Bible School Director at Carters Grove Baptist Church for many years, taught the adult Sunday school class there for over sixty years and served as Church Clerk.Many remember her as overseer for the church cemetery. She was preceded in death by her husband, all of her siblings, all of her husband’s siblings and one grandchild, Thad Beazley Broome.Her siblings were Walter Mathis, Edward Mathis, Louise Mathis Cheney, Mary Mathis Smith, Carl Mathis and Christine (Tena) Mathis Corry. She is survived by her daughter, Grace Virginia (Ginny) Beazley Broome and her son-in-law, Thad Truitt Broome, Sr.Also, she is survived by two grandsons, Thad Truitt Broome, Jr., and Benjamin Beazley Broome.Her granddaughters-in-law are Anna Johnson Broome and Kelley Morgan Broome and her three great grandchildren are Brittany Elizabeth Broome, Lindsey Marie Broome and Guy Morgan Broome. There will be no formal visitation.Burial will be private at the Carters Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.A memorial service will be held at the Carters Grove Baptist Church at 11:00am on Saturday , April 6, 2013. The family respectfully request no flowers, please make memorial contributions to Carters Grove Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
