Gertrude Teems Long

July 8, 1933 — May 7, 2024

Gertrude Teems Long, 90, formerly of Long Road, Tignall, has moved to heaven, joining many beloved family members, including her husband of nearly 50 years, Bobbie Newton Long.

Mrs. Long was born on July 8, 1933, to William Robert and Nannie Belle Teems, who both preceded her in death, along with Mrs. Long’s seven siblings: James, William, Hugh, and Roy Teems, and Elizabeth Callaway, Pauline Parker, and Lois Savage. Mrs. Long was also preceded in death by her son-in-law Duane White and her beloved dog, Lacey.

Gertrude Long's legacy as a caregiver will echo into eternity, shaped by her over 50 years of home-based babysitting and her dedicated service to the nursery ministry of Tignall Baptist Church. Mrs. Long’s gentleness of spirit and calm disposition could soothe even the most seemingly inconsolable baby.  “Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ” 1 Corinthians 12:12 (NIV).  If God’s servants were to represent literal parts of Christ’s body, then Gertrude Long would embody Christ’s lap, upon which she has held the majority of Tignall’s children. Mrs. Long’s family suspects that she has probably already made herself at home in heaven’s nursery.

Left to cherish her memory and continue her Christian legacy are her children: Debbie Long White, Kenny (Jan) Long, Allen (Stacy) Long, and Nancy (Bobby) Long Smith; her grandchildren: Erin White, Niki Fain, Jenny Long, Megan (Mick) Williamson, Cody Long, Chance Long, Daniel (Meagan) Smith, Hunter (Megan) Smith, Destini (James) Provost, Anna Claire (Jonathan) Hamby, Ryan Long, and Noah Smith (Armani); her great-grandchildren: Ethan and Chloe Fain, Alaina, Brantlee, and Bayleigh Smith, Hali and Bree Long, Emma Kate and Sara Grace Williamson, Drystin and Brooklynn Smith, Jackson Hamby, and Rynlee and Ember Provost, along with their soon-to-be-born little brother Landyn; and Mrs. Long’s beloved fur child, Kitty Cat.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at 3:00 P.M., at Tignall Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Tim Dilbeck and Rev. Mike Wynne.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Tignall Baptist Church. Pallbearers will be Mrs. Long’s grandsons, and honorary pallbearers will be both past and present deacons of Tignall Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tignall Baptist Church and Clark Station Baptist Church.

Hopkins Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Mrs Gertrude T. Long.
