Evelyn Floyd George

January 18, 1937 — January 12, 2025

Evelyn Floyd George, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 12th, 2025, in Ocilla, Georgia, just days shy of her 88th birthday. Born in Canon, Georgia, on January 18th, 1937, Evelyn's life was marked by devotion to her family, her community, and her career in nursing.

Evelyn graduated from high school and pursued her passion for caregiving by attending nursing school, where she obtained her Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license. She dedicated 28 remarkable years to Wills Memorial Hospital, providing compassionate care and touching countless lives. Afterward, she shared her skills with CSRA Home Health until retiring in 2020, marking a venerable career of service to others.

Evelyn's life was a testament to faith, family, and service. A devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Washington, she lived her life with unwavering faith and was also a founding member of Beta Sigma Phi and an esteemed member of the Eastern Star. Her zeal for life was reflected in her many interests, including watching her grandchildren play sports, enjoying Gospel music, dancing with her beloved late husband Earl, and engaging in creative pursuits such as needlepoint and sewing. Evelyn also loved baking and often shared her culinary creations with family and friends. She cherished every opportunity to volunteer, travel, and visit her daughters and their families. Bird and squirrel watching in her backyard brought her immense joy and peace.

Evelyn is survived by her three loving daughters: Freda Richardson (Bill) of Enigma, Georgia; Sallie George (Freddy Earley) of Fletcher, North Carolina; and Trudie Gallo (Tony) of Grovetown, Georgia. Her grandchildren, Valerie Liberto, John Mitchell, Dr. Drew Richardson, Lyle Richardson, Eve Gallo, and Lawrence Gallo, and great-grandchildren, Kai Liberto, Lucy Richardson, and Faye Richardson, will forever cherish her memory. Evelyn is also survived by her dear sister, Marie Bryant of Newnan, Georgia.

She rejoins those who preceded her in passing: her devoted spouse, Earl George Jr. "Big Daddy"; her parents, Fred Floyd and Sue Temple Floyd; and her sister, Louneal Walton.

Family and friends will gather to pay their respects at Hopkins Funeral Home for a visitation on January 16th from 1-2 PM, followed by a funeral service at 2 PM. Her interment will take place at Resthaven Cemetery. Pallbearers honoring her memory include Tony Gallo, Dr. Drew Richardson, John Mitchell, Lyle Richardson, Lawrence Gallo, Freddy Earley, and Eve Gallo.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Wilkes County Senior Citizens Center in care of Newton Gunter, 108 Marshall Street, Washington, Georgia 30673, ensuring Evelyn's legacy of caring lives on.

Arrangements are provided by Hopkins Funeral Home.
