Ernest W Cathey

Mr. Ernest Watson Cathey, Jr., 83, of Tignall, Georgia, formerly of Cherokee County, died June 27, 2012. A native of Atlanta, he was the son of the late Ernest Watson Cathey and Ruth Reed Cathey Matthews and the stepson of Walter Chennault Matthews, Jr. Mr. Catheyretired from the Georgia State Patrol in 1983.He was a Reinhardt College Alumnus, a member of the Peace Officers Association of Georgia, the NRA, and the Hiram Masonic Lodge #51.He served his country in the U.S. Navy.He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Sara Timmons Cathey, a son, Reed Barron Cathey and a daughter, Cindy Cathey. Funeral services will be Saturday, June 30th at 11am in Danburg Baptist Church with the Rev. Ben Walker officiating.Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Survivors include a daughter and son in law, Claire and Doug Nelson, Washington; granddaughter, Miranda Bliss Nelson, Athens; brother in law, N.S. Timmons and his wife, Gladys, Sumter, S.C.; and a niece, Sharron Timmons-Erskine and her husband, D. Erskine, of Conyers. The family will receive friends Friday from 6 – 7:30pm at the funeral home.
