Ms. Emily Baston Thornton, 91, of Pine Lane in Washington, passed away Wednesday afternoon at Southern Manor. Ms. Thornton was born in Washington, was the daughter of James N. and Mamie Dunnaway Baston, and was the widow of Mr. James “Buddy” Thornton.She was an administrative assistant at Essex Manufacturing Co. for a number of years.She was a member of the Washington First Baptist Church. She is survived by one daughter, Mary Donna Lunceford, of Washington; five grandchildren, Holly L. Blackburn (Marvin), of Washington; Bob Lunceford (Elizabeth), of Washington; Brook T. Sanders (Mike), of Lafayette, La.; Nick Z. Thornton (Mary Stacey), Southern Pines, N.C.; and T. J. Thornton, of N.C.; three great grandchildren, Brett Lunceford, Ella Thornton, and John Thornton; daughter-in-law, Gail Thornton ,of Shelby, N.C.,and by a number of nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by a son, John L. Thornton, and by 2 great grandsons, Matthew and David Lunceford. Funeral services will be 11:30 am Saturday, May 25, 2019, at the Hopkins Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kevin Madden officiating.Visitation will be Saturday morning from 10:00am until the time of the service at Hopkins Funeral Home.A PRIVATE interment will follow at Resthaven Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bob Lunceford, Brett Lunceford, Nick Thornton, Marvin Blackburn, Mitt Broome, and Al Broome. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund or to the Pre-K Fund, First Baptist Church,P.O. Box 603, Washington, GA 30673.
