Emily Mae Atchison, a cherished resident of Crawfordville, GA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 12th, 2025 at the age of 69. Born on Sunday, January 15th, 1956 in Washington, GA, she had lived in Crawfordville until moving to the Atlanta area after college. She came back to Crawfordville 3 years ago when her health began to fail. Emily’s life was rich in love, dedication, and service to others. Emily began school at Alexander Stephens Institute before transferring to Warren County Schools to complete her education graduating in the class of 1974. She went on to earn a BS in Education from West Georgia College in Carrollton, GA in 1978. She dedicated her professional life to nurturing young minds as a Physical Education teacher and coach where her passion for sports and physical well-being left a lasting impact on countless students. Emily retired from Fulton County School System in 2008 after 30 years of service. A devoted member of the Atlanta community for many years, she volunteered with many groups including the Atlanta Aquarium. Emily loved the quiet of nature and all kinds of water sports and activities. She loved to play pickle ball in her later years. Emily was a long standing member of Jennings Baptist Church, attending the TEL Sunday School class at Crawfordville Baptist Church after returning a few years ago. She was also a past member of Sharon-Raytown Garden Club. Emily is survived by her loving family, including her brother, Charles Atchison and his wife, Paula of Crawfordville ,GA; her brother-in-law Forrest Garner Jr, of Augusta, GA: her nephews, Gabe Garner and his wife, Terra of Augusta, GA, and Cam Garner of Woodstock, GA, and her niece, Teri Atchison Beasley and her husband Keith of Statesboro, GA. She also leaves behind cherished great-nieces and nephews, Chelsea Taylor, Olivia Garner, Connor Garner, and Kolton Beasley. Her life was also blessed with a number of cousins and special friends. Emily was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel Bertram Atchison and Luna Mae Stewart Atchison, as well as her beloved sister, Mary Jane Atchison Garner. A graveside service to honor Emily’s life will be held on Tuesday at 2:00 PM at Jennings Baptist Church Cemetery, with Pastor Jay Beeland officiating. Following the service, a visitation will take place, allowing family and friends to gather and celebrate the life of this remarkable women who touched so many hearts. Arrangements are being handled by Hopkins Funeral Home, ensuring Emily’s family and friends can focus on remembering her life and legacy.
