Elizabeth Burton Edwards “Betty” Thornton, 93, of Thornton Rd., entered into rest Friday morning, April 1, 2022, at Lake Crossing Health and Rehabilitation Center in Appling. Mrs. Thornton was born in Elberton and had lived in Wilkes County for most of her life. She was the daughter of the late Jack and Lizzie Edwards, and was the wife of the late J. W. Thornton. She worked as the secretary/bookkeeper at Thornton Auto Sales and was a member of the Washington First Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Volunteer Sunday School Class. She is survived by one daughter, Elizabeth T .”Beth” Brown, and husband Charlie, of Martinez; one son, Ellis Thornton, and wife Pat, of Washington; one sister-in-law, Margaret T. Myers, of Washington; five grandchildren, Jennifer Pefferly (Jim), Randall Brown, Chris Thornton (Jan), Greg Thornton, and Kelli T. Tillman (Michael); and eight great grandchildren. Funeral services will be 11:00a.m. Monday, April 4, 2022, at the Hopkins Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Chris Townsend officiating.Visitation will be Monday morning from 10:00-10:55a.m. at Hopkins Funeral Home.Interment will follow at Resthaven Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Michael Tillman, Randall Brown, Greg Thornton, Chris Thornton, Walker Thornton, Brooks Thornton, and Jim Pefferly. Memorial contributions may be made to T.J. & Friends, P.O. Box 6161, Elberton, Ga. 30635. Hopkins Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Mrs. Elizabeth “Betty” Thornton.
