Edith McClearen Lindsey, 91, of Washington, died late Tuesday evening, May 9, 2017, at the Southern Manor Senior Living Facility. Mrs. Lindsey was born in Washington, and was the daughter of Virgil Prince McClearen and Sabrina Ellen Brown McClearen. She was widowed twice.She was first married to William Rhodes “Billy” Lindsey, and then to Aubrey Lindsey.She was a 1942 graduate of Washington High School, and earned a degree from Atlanta Business School. She performed paralegal work for the Law Office of Orr & Kopecky in Washington.She was a former member of the Pilot Club, a member of the local chapter of the DAR, and had been a very active member of the Washington Presbyterian Church, which she dearly loved.Along with her late husbands and her parents, Mrs. Lindsey was preceded in death by her daughter, Margaret Lindsey Strother; her step son, Donnie Lindsey; her brother, Virgil Prince McClearen, Jr.; and by two sisters, Virginia Ellen McClearen, and Amelia McClearen. Mrs. Lindsey was survived by a stepdaughter, Denise Skelton, of TN;one grandson, Robert Lindsey Strother (Lina), of Washington; one granddaughter, Lindsey Strother Rivas (Samuel), of Athens; two great grandchildren, Hannah Elizabeth Strother and Benjamin Robert Strother, of Washington; one brother, David Franklin McClearen (Louise), of Washington; one sister, Peggy Ann McClearen Murdock, of Washington; and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be 11:00AM Friday, May 12, 2017, at Resthaven Cemetery with Rev. Glen Kohlhagen officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 to 8PM at Hopkins Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
