Dorothy “Dot” S. Branham, a beloved member of the Ficklin Community, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at Pruitt Health in Washington, Georgia. She was 91 years old.
Born on October 15, 1933, Dorothy lived a life marked by dedication to her family, her work, and her community. Dorothy was the beloved widow of Henry Kinzey Branham Sr., with whom she shared many beautiful years. She spent her career as a dental assistant and hygienist before retiring from the state of Georgia with 24 years of service in public health, working in Wilkes and Lincoln counties. Her commitment extended beyond her professional life into her active participation in her church and local organizations.
A devoted member of the Washington Methodist Church, Dorothy was deeply involved in the Willing Workers Sunday School Class, The Young at Heart Club, and was known for her compassionate work as a prayer chain coordinator and volunteer for the church food pantry. Her dedication to her community extended to being an emeritus member of the Homer Legg Chapter #535 in Lincolnton, GA.
Dorothy is survived by her loving daughter, LuAnn Holmes, and her husband, John Vernon of Trenton, SC; her devoted son, Walter Branham of Crawford, GA; and her cherished brother, Bobby Stevens of Washington, GA.; her devoted grandchildren: Kate Sinclair and her husband Scott, and Cissy Perry and her husband Eli.; and her great-grandchildren Lily Sinclair, Eliza Sinclair, and Samuel Perry. Additionally, she leaves behind several nieces and nephews who remember her as a guiding light in their lives.
She was preceded in death by her son, Henry Kinzey Branham, and her siblings, Betty Stevens Echols, Gerald Franklin Stevens, William "Billy" Talbert Stevens, Joseph "Pete" Brantley Stevens, Jimmy Echols Stevens, Jerry Douglas Stevens, and Gene Arthur Stevens.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, from 10:30 to 11:30 am at the Hopkins Funeral Home Chapel. A service to honor Dorothy’s life will follow at 12 Noon at the Branham Family Cemetery.
Pallbearers who will have the honor of carrying her to rest: Marty Echols, Lewis Echols, Clint Echols, Robert Stevens, Paul Mell, and Phillip Stevens.
Donations be made to the Washington Methodist Church, PO Box 518, Washington, GA 30673, a place that held a special space in Dorothy’s heart and life.
Dorothy S. Branham will be remembered for her warmth, her tireless service to others, and her deep faith. She leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
