Mrs. Debbie Brown Lindsey, 67, of Washington, passed away Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at her home.Mrs. Lindsey was a lifelong resident of Wilkes County. She was the daughter of Troy and Bonnie Dunnaway Brown, and the wife of Kenneth Lindsey.She was a 1968 graduate of Washington Wilkes High School. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education from Georgia Southern University and her Master’s degree from the University of Georgia. She taught first grade at Washington Wilkes Primary School for 30 years, where she earned Teacher of the Year. Following her retirement, she served as Director of the First Baptist Church Pre-K program for 13 years.She served on the board of the Mary Willis Library, and was a member of the Alpha Theta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma and the First Baptist Church of Washington. Survivors in addition to her parents include her husband of 46 years, Kenneth Lindsey of Washington; three daughters, Mary Ellen Lindsey and Karin Lindsey of Washington and Kristie Lindsey of Nashville, TN; one granddaughter, Ava Lindsey Rose; brothers and sisters-in-law, Tim and Dori Brown, Ray and Gail Brown; and five nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, October 25, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, Washington with Rev. Kevin Madden officiating. A private family committal service will follow at Washington Wilkes Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m. on Thursday prior to the service at First Baptist Church. Pallbearers will include Wayne Hocutt, Joey Fievet, Dan Coxwell, Henry Bowen, Edward Pope Jr., and Dr. Dan McAvoy. Honorary Pallbearers will include members of the Alpha Theta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Honor Society.
