David Cecil Hilley

Mr. David Cecil Hilley, 77, of N. Hulin Ave., passed away Monday evening, July 29, 2019, at his home. Mr. Hilley was born in Elbert County and had lived in Tignall for about 57 years.He was the son of the late Carey Cecil Hilley and Eunice Prince Hilley, and was the husband of Nancy Arrington Hilley.They were married in 1961, and had been married for over 57 years.Mr. Hilley worked at the Elberton Manufacturing Company, owned and operated his own carpet and flooring company, and owned the D & S Car Wash in Tignall.He was also a rural mail carrier for the U.S. Post Office.Mr. Hilley was a member and deacon at the Mallorysville Baptist Church, served on the Tignall City Council, and loved his church mission trips to Old Mexico. He is survived by his wife, Nancy A. Hilley, of Tignall; two sons, David Thomas Hilley, of Clarkesville, and Stacy Eric Hilley and wife Amanda Lynn, of Commerce; three grandchildren, Savannah Hilley, Owen Hilley, and Warren Hilley; two brothers, George C. Hilley and Charles “Chick” Hilley, both of Elberton and daughter in law, Peggy Hilley of Ocala, FLorida. Funeral services will be Wednesday afternoon, July 31, 2019, at 5:00pm at the Mallorysville Baptist Church in Tignall with Rev. Barry McAvoy, Rev. Ben Glosson, and Rev. Phil Campbell officiating.Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday afternoon from 3:30 until the time of the service at Mallorysville Baptist Church. Active pallbearers will be Joe Burton, Marc Hammond, Joe Hardy, Shane Denard, Travis Hilley, and Nathan Hilley.Honorary pallbearers will be Coot Denard, Otis Callaway, Dr. Dan McAvoy, Bud Harrison, Tookie Swords, Pete Harris, James Harper, Bobby Kimbrough, Ralph Adams, Mac Fleming, Leon Aycock, Neil Wilson, David Slaton, Ryan Burton, Greg Prince, John Prince, and Edwin Stratton. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mallorysville Baptist Church, 199 Bunch Rd., Tignall, GA30668. The contributions will be divided equally between the church and Mexico Missions, which David was so dedicated to and personally invested in. Hopkins Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
