Mr. David Austin Echols, 81, of Rayle, died November 8, 2010 at his home.He was a native of Philomath, Georgia,the son of the late Benjamin Tolbert and Frances Elizabeth Walker Echols.Mr. Echols was retired from the Santa Fe Railroad, where he had worked as a conductor. He was a member of Countyline Baptist Church, The Masonic Lodge. The Philomath Volunteer Fire Department and served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard.Mr. Echols was preceded in death by his wife, Donnie Joy Southard Echols, a son, David Allan Echols, sisters, Gertrude Tyler, Wynelle Broome and Lois Rutherford, brother,Ben Thomas Echols and niece, Marian Remsen. A memorial service will be held Sunday, November 14, 2010 at 2pm in Countyline Baptist Church with Rev. Russell Bruce officiating. Survivors include two daughters and son in law, Dr. Janett Lynn Echols, of Rayle and Elizabeth Ann and Jerry Harris, of Amarillo, Texas; grandchildren, Perry David (Tracy) Echols, of Lumpkin County, GA, David Jeremy (Cindy) Echols, of Bradenton, Florida, Vanessa (Shane) Redline, of Amarillo, TX and James Arthur Strickland, Jr. of Myakka, Florida; seven great grandchildren;sister, Marjorie Tyler, Washington; brother, Elliott Joseph Echols, of White Sulphur Springs, W. Virginia; great niece, Sonja (Gerald) Thompson and great nephew, Tony Quave; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
