Dan Reese Mcavoy

Mr. Daniel Reese McAvoy, 88, died Thursday, August 6, 2009, at his home. Mr. McAvoy was a native of Wilkes County, where he attended Courtground School.He was the widower of Mildred Nunn McAvoy, and was the son of the late Jacob McAvoy and Irene McCarthy McAvoy.Mr. McAvoy always enjoyed the school children when they would come and visit his farm on field trips.He was a wonderful father to his four children, who loved him dearly.He was a retired farmer and was a member of the Phillips Mill Baptist Church. Funeral services will be Saturday, August 8, 2008, at 3:00 at the Phillips Mill Baptist Church with Rev. John King and Rev. Jamie Callaway officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.Patrick McAvoy, Billy McAvoy, Glen Gabriel, Kim Moss, Tommy McAvoy and Doug Saxon will serve as pallbearers.Great grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers. Mr. McAvoy is survived by one daughter, Dorothy (Jimmy) Saxon, of Carlton; three sons, Jerry McAvoy, of Washington, Curtis (Linda) McAvoy, of Athens, and Donnie (Claudia) McAvoy, of Comer; one sister, Becky Hargadon, of Marietta; six grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
