Claude Anderson "Sonny" Nelms

Mr. Claude Anderson “Sonny” Nelms, Jr., 84, of Lavonia, entered into rest on Tuesday, March 22, 2022, at Piedmont Athens Regional Hospital. Mr. Nelms was born in Athens, Ga., and was the son of the late Claude A. Nelms, Sr. and Mildred Cagle Nelms.He was the husband of Virginia Corbett Nelms.He was a comptroller and Financial Vice President of an auto lease company, and had an MBA and had a Jurist Doctorate Degree.He was a lifetime Optimist Club member (which was such a big part of his life), and was of the Methodist Faith. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Corbett Nelms, of Lavonia; two sons, Andy Nelms and David Nelms, both of Atlanta; two brothers, Richard Buren Nelms (Kay), of Washington, and Michael Eugene Nelms (Diane), of Griffin, Ga.; and two grandchildren, Mary-Virginia Nelms (Logan Brazil), of Omaha, Neb., and Corbett Nelms, of Mobile. Ala. His Celebration of Life will be at 2:00pm on Sunday, March 27, 2022, at the Washington First United Methodist Church with Rev.
