Carolyn E. Smith

Carolyn Wood Echols Smith, 84, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on April 2, 2024, in Tignall, Georgia. She was born on November 21, 1939, to the late Marvin Eugene Echols and Annie Ruth Anderson Echols.

Carolyn was a devout Christian with a strong work ethic. She loved God and family above all. Known for her love of cooking for her family and friends. Her delicious meals brought joy and comfort to all who were lucky enough to gather around her table. She also had a green thumb and spent many hours tending to her beloved garden, cultivating vibrant flowers and delicious vegetables.

Carolyn was a pillar of strength in her community and the anchor for her family, known for her compassion and willingness to help others in need. She touched the lives of many with her warm smile and kind heart, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew her. She had a great love for children, plants and small animals. Her porch was adorned with hummingbird feeders every summer.

Her passing leaves a void in the hearts of her family and friends, but they take solace in knowing that she is at peace. Carolyn's memory will live on through the love and memories she shared with those around her.

In addition to her parents, Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, William Spear Smith, and a grandson, MJ Smith.

Carolyn is survived by her three children: Mike Smith and his spouse Tanya, Marty Smith and his spouse Terri, and Kim Wynne and her spouse Mike. She is also survived by eight adoring grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. She leaves behind two sisters, Norma E. Pittman and Barbara E. Poss.

Funeral services will be 3:00 P.M. Thursday, April 4, 2024 at Tignall Baptist Church with Reverend Mike Wynne officiating. Interment will follow at Washington Wilkes Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Michael Smith, Saul Smith, Christopher Rogers, Matt Green, Jonathan Rogers, Brandon Howard, Jonathan Wheatley, and Jackson Lyons.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 2:00 P.M. until the time of the service at Tignall Baptist Church.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Bristol Hospice for the exemplary care provided to Carolyn in her final days.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Tignall Baptist Church, P.O. Box 236, Tignall, GA, 30668, in Carolyn’s memory.
