Bobby Jones

Mr. Bobby Jones, 90, of Washington, Georgia entered into rest Monday, August 7, 2023 at Piedmont Hospital in Augusta, Georgia.

He was a loving father and grandfather.

Born on February 23, 1933, he was the son of the late Andrew P. Jones, Sr. and Marie Hadden Jones.

He graduated from Louisville High School and earned his Bachelor's Degree in Forestry from the University of Georgia and owned Dixie Wood Products. He served in the Army during the Korean War.

Bobby moved to Washington in the late fifties. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Washington, Forestry Association, Southeastern Wood Producers Association, Rotary International, and was a Freemason.

He served on the Board of Directors at Farmers and Merchants Bank for 40 years.

Bobby was an avid golfer and is still the only champion to have won his local tournament in three different decades. A formidable amateur, he won many championships throughout the southeast. Later in life, Bobby volunteered to serve 25 years at the Masters Golf Tournament in Augusta. He proudly supported the University of Georgia for fifty years.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of sixty years, Mona Drake Jones along with his parents and brothers, Harry F. Jones, Andrew P. Jones, Jr., William P (Bill) Jones and Johnny J. (Deek) Jones.

He is survived by his son Dr. Robert C. Jones of Macon and daughter, Donna Jones (Andy) Raye of Suwanee and four grandchildren, Robert Andrew Raye, Kathryn Hadden Raye, Anna Raye (Esteban) Alvarado, and Ashley Raye (Wesley) Hatchcock, and four great grandchildren, Laila, Emily, Archer, and Jema Hathcock, and one sister, Sallie Ree Jones Netherland of Louisville, brother-in-law Chan (Phyllis) Drake of Washington, Georgia, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be on Friday, August 11, from 6-8 at Hopkins Funeral Home in Washington.

The funeral service will be Saturday, August 12, at 11AM at Resthaven Cemetery with Rev. Jim Newsome officiating.

Serving as active pallbearers will be Chan Drake, Charles Legette, Lewis Brown, Tommy Jones, Walter Jones, Johnny Jones, Ed Pope III, and Dr. Kraig Wangsnes.

Honorary pallbearers will be Farmers and Merchants Bank Board of Directors.
