Beverly Garrett Barney

Mrs. Beverly Garrett Barney, 76, of Concord, Mass., passed away July 22, 2018 in Wayland, Mass., with her family by her side. Mrs. Barney was born in Washington, Ga., on September 26, 1941.She was the devoted wife of Rev. David M. Barney, with whom she enjoyed 53 years of loving marriage.She was the daughter of the late William H. and Fannie K. (Denard) Garrett.After growing up in Tignall, she graduated with a B.S. in Psychology and Education from the Women’s College of Georgia. Beverly furthered her studies by earning an M.S. in Social Work from the University of Tennessee in 1965. Beverly was a longtime active Member of the Trinity Episcopal Church in Concord, where her husband served as Rector for 20 years. She was a past president for the Concord Parent/Teachers Organization and enjoyed her involvement with the Concord Museum.She was a pioneer for Concord’s community cable network, and often assisted with the broadcasting production and photography of town meetings.Her gardens brought her immense joy, and thoughtfully and tirelessly tended to her beautiful flowers. In addition to her beloved husband, survivors include one son, Michael Barney and his wife Alison, of Peperell: two grandsons, Benjamin and Asher Barney; her sister-in-law, Mary Garrett, of Monroe, Ga.; and one nephew, Gregg Garrett and his wife Kiddy, of Greensboro, Ga.She was predeceased by her only brother, Wesley Garrett. Memorial services will be held Sunday, October 7, 2018, at 2:00pm at the Tignall Baptist Church with Rev. Adam Denny officiating.Inurnment will follow in the Tignall Baptist Cemetery. Hopkins Funeral Home is honored to serve the Barney Family.
