Mrs. Amanda Elizabeth Westbrook Lee (Betty), 88, of Washington, passed away Sunday, November 2, 2014. Born January 8th, 1926 in Albany, GA to Alma Davis Westbrookand William Parker Westbrook, she spent her childhood in Dougherty County until she graduated from Albany High School. She graduated from the University of Georgia, where she played on the golf team and was a member of Chi Omega Sorority. At a friend’s wedding she met her future husband, William Frank Lee, Jr. It was love at first sight for the two and they would marry February 26th, 1949 and make Washington, GA their home. In Washington she quickly became an active member of the community, including helping reopen The Episcopal Church of the Mediator, where she was a Sunday School teacher, Altar Guild Chairman, and a member of The Order of the Daughters of the King. Mrs. Lee is a former member of The Azalea District Garden Club, The Fort James Chapter of The National Society Colonial Dames XVII Century, The National Society Magna Charta Dames and Barons, Daughters of the American Revolution, and The Sovereign Colonial Society (Americans of Royal Descent). Summers were spent at her cottage on Lake Rabun with family and friends. This is where she wanted to be more than anywhere else in the world. The surviving family has wonderful memories of those summers at Lakemont. Preceded in death by her husband, she is survived by her three children, William Frank Lee, III, Anne Lee Howard and her husband, Stephen Thomas Howard, and Nancy Lee Allen and five grandchildren; Elizabeth Westbrook Allen, Clinton Alexander Allen, Stephen Thomas Howard, Jr., William Scott Howard, and Emily Howard Slater. She also leaves a great grandson, Banner Clinton Allen, who was born on October 10th, 2014. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 5th at 1:00pm in The Church of The Mediator with Rev. Loree Reed officiating.Interment will follow in The Resthaven Cemetery.Scott Howard, Parker Westbrook, Stephen Howard, Sam Slater, Clint Allen and Ed Pope III will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6-8pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to The Church of the Mediator in Washington, Georgia.
