Mrs. Betty Jean Dunson, 78, of Lindsey St. in Tignall, entered into rest Saturday morning at the Hill Haven Nursing Facility in Commerce, Ga. Mrs. Dunson was born in Lincolnton but had lived in this community for all of her life. She was the daughter of William and Emma Davis Thurmond, and was the widow of Julius Ray Dunson. She had been a seamstress at Hollander Home Fashions in Tignall for a number of years, and was a member of the Fishing Creek Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a son, Jamie Daniel Dunson, and by a brother, Bennie Thurmond. She is survived by two sons, Jesse Ray Dunson (Sherri Ann), of Gatlinburg, TN., and John Dunson (Laura), of Washington; one daughter, Patricia Ann Dunson Bufford (Chris), of West Point, AL; one brother, William Thurmond, of Tignall; one sister, Emma Thurmond Anderson, of Evans; one granddaughter, Shelley Ann Brim and by four great grandchildren, Brianna, Cody, Kaillee, and Emily. Graveside services will be 2:00pm Monday, January 16, 2023, at the Fishing Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Roy Cates officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday evening, January 15, 2023, at Hopkins Funeral Home from 6-8pm. Hopkins Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Ms. Betty Jean Dunson.
