Mr. Harvey Anderson Standard, Sr., age 93, passed away on Sunday, January 30, 2017 at his home. Mr. Standard was born in Danburg on August 29, 1923, to the late John Haynes Standard and to the late Mary Lou Bunch Standard.He lived his entire life in the Danburg area. He was a member of the Fishing Creek Baptist Church and was stationed in the South Pacific at Bora Bora while serving in the U.S. Navy during WW II.After being honorably discharged from the Navy, he married and raised eight children. He worked throughout his life as a farmer, mechanic, logger, and rural mail carrier.In his spare time, he loved to fish and hunt. At age 82, he finally retired. Anderson is survived by six children and their spouses:Anderson Standard, Jr. and Linda, Patricia Bryant and Ed Morris, Darrell Standard and Dianne, Ken Standard and Patsy, Rebecca Guin and Roddie; and Fay Gunter and Efrem;daughter-in-law, Linda Standard; grandchildren, Karen and Michael Alexander, Mike Standard, Bobby Ansley, Bobby Keith and Tesi Standard, Daniel and Rhonda Standard, Chris and Robin Standard, Deana and Mark Crook, Billy Bryant, Will and Nancy Standard, Adam and Tiffanie Standard, Ashley and Joseph Edwards, Allison and John Echols, Jason and Jenny Standard, Russell Standard, Lisa Rainwater, Thomas Paradise, Casey and Jessica Paradise, Keith Lovvorn, Kenneth Gunter and Kyle Gunter; 28 great grandchildren, and 7 great-great- grandchildren.He is also survived by a sister, Mary Denard, and by his sister-in-law, Sarah Standard; and by a host of nieces and nephews, and great nieces and great nephews. Mr. Standard was preceded in death by sons, Dennis Standard and Keith Standard; brothers, Kenneth Standard, Mack Standard, and Haynes Standard, Sr.; and sisters, Gloria Kemp and Bessie Lindsey. Graveside services to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00pm Wednesday, February 1, 2017, at the Fishing Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Roy Cates and Rev. Ficklen Guin officiating. His fifteen Grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers.Memorial contributions may be made to the Fishing Creek Baptist Church Cemetery Fund in his honor and memory.
