Mrs. Alice Martin Thornton, 64, of Sandy Cross Rd. in Crawfordville, passed away Friday. November 22, 2019. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 26, 2019, at the Sandy Cross Baptist Church with Rev. John Autry and Rev. Larry Davison officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday morning at Sandy Cross Baptist Church for one hour prior to the service (10:00 - 11:00). Mrs. Thornton was born in Columbia, SC, and had lived in Taliaferro County for most of her life.She was the daughter of Robert Hammond Martin and Leola Hodges Martin.Her mother died when she was five years old, and Shorty and Susie Mae Edwards raised her from that time on.Alice always said she considered them as her mother and daddy.Alice worked a variety of jobs, including Kiddy Corner and the Big Chick, but was also a loving wife, mother and grandmother, a homemaker, and was bookkeeper for the family business.She was a longtime member of the Sandy Cross Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, Danny Thornton, of he home; one son, Rob Thornton, and wife Jill, of Crawfordville; one daughter, Tracey Corns, and husband Tony, also of Crawfordville;two brothers, Jimmy Martin (Susan), and Dale Martin (Colleen), both of Jacksonville, FL; one sister, Betty M. Denard, of Carrollton; five grandchildren, Nicholas Corns, Brian Corns, Hayley Corns, Carlie Thornton, and Daniel Thornton; and one great grandson, Jules Corns.
