Adelaide Lindsey

Adelaide Wood Lindsey passed away on December 11, 2018 at the age of 94. She was born on June 18, 1924 in Washington, Georgia, and was the daughter of the late Dr. Orlando Samuel Wood and Louella Shearman Griggs Wood. Adelaide graduated from The University of Georgia with a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Art where she studied under well known Lamar Dodd. She was a member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority and a member of the acapella choir at the University. She was married to the late James Morgan Lindsey, Jr for fifty years and always resided in Wilkes County. They had a daughter, Jan Wood Lindsey Kirsch. A life long member of First United Methodist Church, Adelaide enjoyed many years of singing in the choir and being a member of the Women’s Service Club Circle. She was also a member of the Women’s Club in Washington and served as hostess many times at Washington’s Tour of Homes. She is survived by a daughter, Jan Lindsey Kirsch and son-in-law, John Lindsey Kirsch; granddaughters, Dr. Lindsey Kirsch-Darrow and husband, Adam Darrow; Lauren Kirsch Leighton, PAC and husband Robert Leighton. Great granddaughters, Grace Elizabeth Darrow and Claire Morgan Leighton. Also a soon to be great grandson due in February, Baby Leighton. Nieces, Bonnie Griggs Temps and nephews, Michael Lindsey and Thomas Griggs, Jr., as well as several great nieces and great nephews. She is predeceased by her husband, Jim Lindsey, Jr. and her sister, Virginia Griggs Perry, and brother, Dr. Thomas S. Griggs, Sr. Services will be held on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at 3:00 PM at the Hopkins Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Resthaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First United Methodist Church, Washington, Georgia. Hopkins Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
